The threat to a pipeline is rarely someone at a fence. It is a machine digging where it should not, an illegal tap being cut into the line, or ground movement no one has noticed yet — and it happens along hundreds of miles of route that nobody can watch.
RaySense TPI und Grabungsdetektion applies distributed acoustic sensing to the pipeline right of way. A fiber optic cable laid along the route becomes a continuous sensor, detecting the acoustic signature of excavation, tapping and third-party interference, and reporting where along the route it is happening.
Most pipeline damage is not deliberate attack — it is a contractor’s excavator in the wrong place. Detection that reports a digging event and its location while the machine is still working is the difference between a phone call and a rupture. The same sensing catches deliberate tapping, which sounds quite different from legitimate work nearby.
The practical question is whether fiber already runs along the route. Many pipelines were laid with a communications fiber in the same trench, and where that exists, the sensing layer may already be in the ground waiting to be used.
