The threat to a pipeline is rarely someone at a fence. It is a machine digging where it should not, an illegal tap being cut into the line, or ground movement no one has noticed yet — and it happens along hundreds of miles of route that nobody can watch.

Turning the pipeline route into a sensor

レイセンスTPIと掘削検知 applies distributed acoustic sensing to the pipeline right of way. A fiber optic cable laid along the route becomes a continuous sensor, detecting the acoustic signature of excavation, tapping and third-party interference, and reporting where along the route it is happening.

Third-party interference is the dominant risk

Most pipeline damage is not deliberate attack — it is a contractor’s excavator in the wrong place. Detection that reports a digging event and its location while the machine is still working is the difference between a phone call and a rupture. The same sensing catches deliberate tapping, which sounds quite different from legitimate work nearby.

What the system needs

The practical question is whether fiber already runs along the route. Many pipelines were laid with a communications fiber in the same trench, and where that exists, the sensing layer may already be in the ground waiting to be used.
