Some perimeters cannot have a fence, and some should not advertise that they are detected at all. Buried sensors cover both cases: the detection layer sits under the ground, invisible from the surface, with no fence line to follow and nothing for an intruder to identify and avoid.
RaySense LGDS turns the ground itself into a sensor using a single buried fiber optic cable. It detects footsteps, vehicles and digging along up to 100 km (62 miles) of perimeter and pinpoints each event to within a few meters. For long boundaries, one cable and one processor replace a great deal of distributed hardware.
Seismo is a buried seismic unattended ground sensor. It senses people walking and vehicles driving over the ground above it, with nothing visible on the surface and no fence required. Seismo is built for the open ground, approach routes and unfenced boundaries that a fence-mounted sensor cannot reach by definition.
Buried sensing earns its place in three situations. Where there is no fence and none is wanted — open land, approach roads, unfenced boundaries. Where a fence exists but the real risk is the ground beyond it, and you want warning before an intruder reaches the fence at all. And where the detection layer must not be visible, because a covert sensor cannot be defeated by an attacker who does not know it is there.
Soil type, ground cover, expected vehicle traffic and the length of the run all shape which approach fits. Buried systems are also the hardest to retrofit, so this is the one category where it pays to have the conversation before the groundworks rather than after.
