Around midnight on July 9, 2026, someone tried to steal two vehicles from a used car dealership on Clayton Boulevard in Johnston County, North Carolina, near the Wake County line.
It did not go smoothly. According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, a Jeep Cherokee bogged down in mud before it could be driven off the property. A Ram pickup was driven through two fences and then abandoned. The suspects left with nothing.
The dealership still paid for the night. Investigators put the fence damage at roughly $13,000 and the damage to the two vehicles at another $18,000, more than $30,000 in total.
