MicAlert Microphonic Fence Sensor Cable for Rigid Fences

MicAlert is a microphonic sensor cable system for rigid metal fences. It detects the vibrations associated with attempted cutting or climbing and reports alarms through the connected security system. It is designed for outdoor rigid perimeters such as metal, palisade, ornamental, wrought iron and aluminum fences. It is sometimes called an alarm wire for fences: the sensor cable is the wire, attached to the fence itself. It operates by analyzing noise patterns to detect the sharp frequency vibrations specifically associated with forced entry attempts. To prevent nuisance alarms, the system employs three distinct layers of false alarm filtration, including real-time threshold adjustments and wind rejection, which effectively disregard low-frequency signals caused by weather conditions.

The MICALERT is designed as an affordable, “plug and play” solution that attaches directly to the fence without the need for protective conduits, specialized tools, or certified security technicians. The maintenance-free sensor cable comes with a two-year warranty, features a UV-rated coating for extreme weather protection, and offers 500 highly adjustable sensitivity levels to adapt to various environments and fence conditions. Highly versatile, it connects via dry contact relays to any standard alarm system or DVR, making it an ideal security solution for a wide range of locations including commercial areas, data centers, solar farms, gated communities, and equipment storage facilities.

MicAlert System Layout:

  1. The microphonic cable comes pre-cut in 250 ft (75 m), 500 ft (152 m), or 1,000 ft (305 m) lengths.

  2. Each LPU processor (analyzer) monitors up to two zones (two spools): models RB-MIC1Z250 / 2Z250, 1Z500 / 2Z500 and 1Z1000 / 2Z1000.

  3. Each processor supports up to 2,000 ft (600 m) total, split across two zones of up to 1,000 ft (305 m) each. An extended option supports zones of up to 500 m (1,640 ft), for up to 1,000 m (3,280 ft) per processor.

  4. Each kit includes an LPU processor in a weatherproof enclosure, plus the selected sensor cable length.

  5. For larger perimeters, you can combine as many kits as needed.

How Does the MicAlert Fence Alarm System Detect Intruders

The system uses three layers of false-alarm filtering.

1. The detection algorithm is designed to detect only sharp frequency vibrations associated with intrusion attempts, while filtering out the low frequencies caused by weather conditions.

2. Automatic real-time alarm threshold adjustment with wind rejection.

3. 500 sensitivity levels are easily adjusted to adapt the sensor sensitivity to the fence condition.

Innovative Solutions for Every Need

Purpose built perimeter detection for the industries where a breach costs the most.
Explore how RBtec fits yours:

Here are five reasons why security cameras are not enough (Even with Video Analytics!)

Person vs. Intention

Cameras identify a human shape, but a sensor cable detects the physical act of climbing or cutting. One is a picture; the other is a confirmed breach

Environmental "Blindness"

Heavy rain, dense fog, and snow can spoof even the best AI analytics. Detection does not depend on line of sight, so darkness, fog, glare and smoke do not affect it.

The "Masking" Problem

Intruders now use anti-AI clothing or simple masks to bypass facial and skeletal recognition. A sensor cable doesn't care what an intruder looks like, it only detects the physical force of the climb.

Visual Blind Spots

Video analytics are limited by "line of sight" and lighting. A sensor cable provides unbroken, 360° linear protection along your entire fence, eliminating the "dead zones" where AI loses track.

No Recurring Fees

Modern analytics require per-camera licenses and large cloud storage fees. MicAlert is a hardware system: the sensor cable and LPU processor report through dry-contact relays to your alarm panel or DVR, with no analytics licenses, cloud storage or subscription required for detection.

Rigid metal fences: palisade, ornamental, wrought iron, aluminum and welded metal fences. For chain link fences, RBtec recommends the IRONCLAD fence alarm system.

Up to 1,000 ft (300 m) of sensor cable per zone as standard, or up to 500 m (1,640 ft) per zone with the extended option. Kits are supplied in 250 ft (75 m), 500 ft (150 m) and 1,000 ft (300 m) lengths. Dual-zone models (RB-MIC2Z250, RB-MIC2Z500 and RB-MIC2Z1000) monitor two zones from one LPU processor, up to 2,000 ft (600 m) per processor, or 1,000 m (3,280 ft) with the extended option.

Three layers of filtering: the detection algorithm responds to the sharp-frequency vibration of cutting and climbing and ignores low-frequency movement from weather; the processor adjusts its alarm threshold in real time with wind rejection; and sensitivity is set per zone (22 levels on the board, 500 via the optional software) to match the fence condition.

Through dry-contact relays: 8 relays rated 1 A at 12 VDC, plus a tamper relay and a power-outage relay, so any alarm panel, DVR/NVR input or SCADA input can receive the alarm. Power is 12 to 24 VDC (300 mA at 12 VDC).

Two-year warranty on the sensor cable. The LPU processor is housed in a NEMA 4X / IP66 enclosure rated for -40 °F to 221 °F (-40 °C to 105 °C).
